In this lesson, students will connect with the film 2040 by exploring how choices in point of view and perspective impact upon a text. They will first examine a range of videos using changing points of view and identify the pros and cons of each approach. In watching these videos, students will also explore multimodal presentations of potential, imagined experiences in the year 2040. Using both the content and craft of these videos as inspiration, students will create narrative texts about their own, imagined versions of 2040.

In this lesson, students explore the emotions that climate change evokes and examine the tones used in messaging around climate change. Students compare and contrast headlines and videos that use a range of tone. In doing so, students evaluate the effect that different tones have on the audience. Students then create their own messaging around climate change. Students use class data, through surveys, to find out which messaging was most effective.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with 2040, focusing on the topics of transport and liveability. Students begin by participating in a warm-up activity around their personal transport use before investigating liveability and the factors of liveability that are important to them. They then participate in a THINK PAIR SHARE routine and a role-play activity to explore transport in terms of liveability and our environment. Students then think about how future transport could be designed to improve liveability.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with 2040, focusing on the topics of energy and liveability. Students will explore their understanding of liveability and think about how energy and our environment relate to liveability. They will work collaboratively to conduct research into the impacts of fossil fuels on our environment before participating in a guided discussion around a sustainable energy case study. Students will then work in groups to compare electricity produced from coal and solar, and produce a report that summarises the results of their assessment.

This teaching resource provides you with multiple lessons worth of material that can be used to immerse students in, and connect with, the positive sustainability messages explored in the documentary film 2040. Students take inspiration from the solutions presented to propose ideas for leading their community to a better future. It has been designed to guide students through a project where they will consolidate and extend learning from any of the other lessons in the 2040 units.

In this lesson, students will be immersed in, and connect with, the documentary film 2040, focusing on the topic of sustainability and renewable energy. Students begin by exploring the concept of sustainability and work in groups to investigate different types of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices. Students create a presentation and scientific poster to explain which type of renewable energy or which energy efficiency practices would be best suited to their area.
