Crafted for students in their final years of schooling, aged 16-18, these lessons will inspire young people to learn about, and connection with, environmental management of their local environment and waterways. The lessons are spread across different subjects of learning are supported with a screening of a film which serves as a case study and entry point into the learning of the themes within the film.

In this lesson, students will engage in solutions-focused thinking about the challenge of climate change. Students will engage with visions of 2040 through film clips and discussion. They will synthesise research with their own ideas to create a storyboard about their vision of 2040. This storyboard can be used to plan a variety of texts, depending upon your class priorities.

Empowering Women And Girls – English – Years 9&10

In this lesson, students will explore the relationship between empowering women and girls and addressing climate change. First, students will connect with the documentary 2040 to build understanding.Then students will participate in a scaffolded role-play, acting as community members to generate targeted solutions to addressing gender inequality.

A tuning in activity helps students to define and focus on the issues they will be dealing with in the unit of work. In this lesson, students will be immersed in and connect with the documentary film 2040 – it is a great lesson to conduct before watching the documentary in full. Students work in groups to imagine what the world might look like in 2040 based on a range of categories such as diet, fashion, buildings, transport, and technology.
